Frequently Asked Questions
Think of Kid Car drivers as an All-Star team. Because our compensation is better than anyone else’s, everyone wants to drive for us. Applicants undergo fingerprint, criminal, and sex offender registry background checks. We check the driver’s Motor Vehicle Report to ensure they are a safe driver and we spend time with the driver in their vehicle to evaluate their driving style. Finally, we are constantly receiving feedback from our customers and share that feedback with the driver so that they can improve their performance (so please share your feedback).
Kid Car car seats are NCAP crash tested, the industry benchmark for verifying child seat performance in severe accident conditions.
Each convertible car seat is designed to seat rear-facing children from 5-45lbs, forward-facing children from 20-80lbs in a 5-point harness, and children up to 120lbs in a booster seat.
We train drivers in the proper installation of a variety of infant car seat using the American installation method. That said, there are too many seats on the market to make the drivers proficient in every make/model. Please do not be disappointed if the driver (or you) does not feel that the seat is properly installed. Simply ask the driver to install a Kid Car-provided car seat, which is crash-tested for children >5lbs.
Kid Car vehicles pass a DMV inspeaction every 4 months, meaning that they are always in good working order. You can make a note of the vehicle's cleanliness when you rate the driver.
Kid Car uses a 2-step acceptance process to ensure your vehicle is on time. A driver will accept your reservation request up to two days before you are scheduled to travel. The same driver will re-accept the reservation 2 hours before the reservation. If something happens that prevents the driver from being on-time, the system will automatically re-assign the ride to the nearest driver meeting your requirements, ensuring your vehicle is on time.
It is not possible to modify an existing reservation. Instead, please cancel and remake the reservation with the correct information. Please don’t contact the driver directly because any change you make with them will be lost if another driver accepts the ride later.
If you need a car every morning to take your child to school or every Wednesday at 12pm for a class, visit our Kid CarPool page and use the Registration Form. If you like the driver on the first day, tell him about your needs. If the driver is amenable, you can select them as a ‘Preferred Driver’ and they will become your regular driver.
ALL Kid Car drivers are fully vetted and trained in the installation of our car seats and some other brands as well. That said, if you really like a particular driver, you can make them a Preferred Driver, meaning that they will receive your ride requests before any other driver (let them know your regular schedule so that they can try to be available). While continuity is good for everyone, it reduces the driver’s flexibility to accept other rides. As such, there is an automatic 20% gratuity for any ‘Preferred Driver’ trips. Please note Non-Solicitation below.
We have spent a lot of time and money training and vetting your Kid Car driver so please don’t try to cut some sort of side deal with them. We will find out and we will charge you for the offending rides. Besides, nobody likes a cheater.
Kid CarPoolWill the driver watch my child enter my building?
If you have a doorman, the driver will wait for the doorman to greet your child. If you do not have a doorman, we may need to discuss the appropriate steps to ensure the safety of your child.
Children, parents, and teachers will have their driver's name and picture as well as the vehicle's picture and license plate available on the App. At the same time, drivers will be looking for your child or carpool. All Kid Car vehicles have stickers with our logo on the passenger-side windshield, making them easy to identify.
Parents should tell the other members of the Kid CarPool if their child isn’t riding.
Kid Car will text you when your vehicle has arrived AND the car seats are properly installed. Parents can then notify the children or parents can choose to register their child's cell phone number for the ride, meaning the text will be sent directly to the child. Our system masks all cell phone numbers so drivers cannot retain numbers in their personal phones.
